What a lovely sight to come home to 🤩 I was awa What a lovely sight to come home to 🤩 I was away for a week and came home to an incredibly green garden where very thing has grown like crazy! Time to taste some of those little potatoes I think ❤️
1️⃣ Comprehensive Gut Tests (Stool Analysis, S 1️⃣ Comprehensive Gut Tests (Stool Analysis, SIBO Breath Test, Gut Microbiome Analysis) 🦠
The gut is a major player in immunity! Tests like stool analysis, SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) breath test, and microbiome analysis help uncover imbalances, infections, or dysbiosis. Healing the gut can significantly reduce autoimmune symptoms.
2️⃣ Organic Acid Test (OAT)
This test provides insights into gut health, nutrient deficiencies, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, detoxification and metabolic dysfunction. By identifying bacterial overgrowth, nutrient gaps, and metabolic issues, OAT helps tailor personalized treatments that address underlying triggers and improve immune system regulation in autoimmune conditions. It is better than a stool test for discovering fungal and mold infections in the gut.
3️⃣ Food Sensitivity Testing (IgG/IgA) and comprehensive (Cyrex) gluten reactivity Panel 🥦
These tests identify foods that might trigger or aggravate autoimmune reactions. Eliminating these foods can reduce inflammation and help tailor a diet plan that works for you.
4️⃣ Heavy Metal Testing ⚠️
Exposure to heavy metals like mercury or lead can trigger autoimmune responses. Testing can guide detox protocols to reduce the toxic load and improve symptoms.

💡 Why are these tests important?
Because every autoimmune journey is unique! Understanding your body’s specific triggers allows for a personalised treatment plan that can minimise symptoms, reduce flare-ups, and improve overall health.

Hi! My dad took a picture of me in my vegetable ga Hi! My dad took a picture of me in my vegetable garden :) Its the first time I have grown so many different veg, and A LOT of it too! From being someone who was incredibly picky and wouldn’t touch any other veg than cucumber as a child to becoming a vegetarian as a teenager, and still not eating vegetables (!), I’ve come a long way :) The thing is, you are what you eat, (+digest and absorb) and that highly processed vegetable poor vegetarian junk food diet together with a few courses of antibiotics was the perfect recipe for autoimmune disease for me. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to get that push you need to change your ways. Are you ready to change yours? 🌟 Did you know that certain lab tests can unloc 🌟 Did you know that certain lab tests can unlock the secrets to managing autoimmune conditions more effectively? 🌟
Some of the tests I always look at to start with are:

1️⃣ CBC with White Blood Cell Differential ⚪
This test measures the number and type of white blood cells in your body. Abnormal counts can indicate infections, inflammation, or autoimmune activity. Understanding your WBC count helps in monitoring your immune response and the impact of treatment.
2️⃣ CRP (C-Reactive Protein) and ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) 📉
These inflammation markers show how much inflammation is present in your body. Elevated levels can indicate active autoimmune responses. Monitoring these markers helps in assessing disease activity and adjusting treatments accordingly.
3️⃣ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) Test 🩸
A critical test to detect autoimmune activity. A positive result suggests your immune system might be targeting healthy cells. This test is essential for diagnosing conditions like Lupus or Sjögren’s syndrome. However, a negative test does NOT rule out autoimmunity.
4️⃣ Vitamin D Levels ☀️
A crucial factor in immune health! Low Vitamin D can worsen autoimmune symptoms. Testing ensures your levels are optimal for better immune regulation and fewer flare-ups.
5️⃣Thyroid Panel (TSH, fT3, fT4, rT3 and Thyroid Antibodies) 🦋
Vital for diagnosing autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease.
6️⃣ Homocysteine
Elevated homocysteine can indicate inflammation, poor methylation, and increased cardiovascular risk, all of which can exacerbate autoimmune conditions. By identifying high homocysteine, practitioners can tailor interventions—like optimizing B vitamins (B6, B12, and folate)—to support methylation, reduce inflammation, and improve overall health outcomes.

In the next post we’ll look at more specialised Functional Medicine testing and how they can help.

Yes it was really bad and yet I had no obvious gut Yes it was really bad and yet I had no obvious gut symptoms. Having been a picky eater as a child, a carb junkie vegetarian as a teenager and with recurrent UTI’s in my 20’s which were treated with rounds and rounds of antibiotics, really took a toll on my microbiome. This kind of history is something I often see in clients with autoimmune disease.

When your gut flora is shattered, pathogenic bacteria, yeasts or parasites can overgrow and thrive which can be a cause of a leaky gut. When the gut is leaky bacterial toxins (LPS) and undigested food proteins can leak out into the bloodstream, causing inflammation and in some individuals autoimmune disease. If you want to reverse symptoms of autoimmune disease, looking at your gut is crucial piece of the puzzle.
