Hi! My dad took a picture of me in my vegetable garden :) Its the first time I have grown so many different veg, and A LOT of it too! From being someone who was incredibly picky and wouldn’t touch any other veg than cucumber as a child to becoming a vegetarian as a teenager, and still not eating vegetables (!), I’ve come a long way :) The thing is, you are what you eat, (+digest and absorb) and that highly processed vegetable poor vegetarian junk food diet together with a few courses of antibiotics was the perfect recipe for autoimmune disease for me. Yes it was really bad and yet I had no obvious gut symptoms. Having been a picky eater as a child, a carb junkie vegetarian as a teenager and with recurrent UTI’s in my 20’s which were treated with rounds and rounds of antibiotics, really took a toll on my microbiome. This kind of history is something I often see in clients with autoimmune disease.

When your gut flora is shattered, pathogenic bacteria, yeasts or parasites can overgrow and thrive which can be a cause of a leaky gut. When the gut is leaky bacterial toxins (LPS) and undigested food proteins can leak out into the bloodstream, causing inflammation and in some individuals autoimmune disease. If you want to reverse symptoms of autoimmune disease, looking at your gut is crucial piece of the puzzle.
